Creating Categories

Find “Catalog” in the menu bar at the top and then by clicking on it you can create categories that organize many important concepts for a given customer.

Catalog is extremely important to Telecom BSS OSS because many other items such as products, charges and services will be organized under categories. Without catalog a typical VOIP billing software will be a chaotic mess of terminologies and numbers and almost impossible to manage.

A typical category takes a Name, such as “Internet” and may have a parent category that we can pick from a dropdown list.

Right after a category is added a product can be created for it. Products are generally shipped from suppliers. If there’s no supplier in Smartbilling yet, you can easily add one by going to Suppliers in the menu bar and following the steps. If all your suppliers are already set up you can just pick one.

By clicking on Add Product under Catalog menu you can enter Name, Description, the Category the product belongs to, and Supplier. Charge Type can be “One Time” in case the product is sold or “Recurring” in case you rent it. Recurring Period can be “Monthly”; Currency can be “Canadian Dollar”, and Tax Code can be “Canada”. Our Saas Billing Platform provides all acceptable choices for the user.

Price and Cost can be entered for a given product. Price can be set to “Flat Fee” or “Per Unit”. We have a choice to hide the price. In case it’s zero it won’t be displayed on the invoice.

Smartbilling, like every professional IoT Billing Software, allows you to specify Serial Number, Model, Part Number, MAC address, and even Username or Password as “Billing Identifiers”. They can be important to some providers and customers.

You may choose to add subcharges. Some products come with a “Configuration and Delivery” charge which is one-time and per-unit; and also incur an “Annual Maintenance” which is per unit and per year.
